Nearly two decades of providing hope and comfort to Knox County families.

Our Mission

Our Mission

The mission of the HopeNow Furniture Bank is to provide household goods to those individuals and families of Knox County struggling to furnish their own homes due to poverty and other challenging life experiences.

Our Vision

Our Vision

Our vision is for all Knox County children and families to live in homes equipped with essential furnishings, thereby providing basic comfort, encouraging better family unity, and relieving unnecessary suffering.

Our History

From a small volunteer effort to a thriving community organization

Label

2005

HopeNow had its beginnings in a small committee of the Faith Lutheran Church of Mount Vernon, providing household furnishings to women and children leaving New Directions, the domestic abuse shelter of Knox County.  They stored donated furniture in the church’s boiler room in the basement.  As word spread about their assistance, many other people sought help because they could not afford to furnish their homes.

The group recruited volunteers from other churches in the community to help and organized themselves into Faiths United for Families (FUFF).  Their furniture storage needs kept increasing, so they had to move to new accommodations several times in the next few years.

2009

FUFF was re-named HopeNow and incorporated as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization so it could qualify for grants to accommodate the growing need for help.  HopeNow’s mission is summarized in our motto, “Helping Our Neighbors in Need.”  The Knox Foundation and Ariel Foundation grants since our beginning were critical in helping  our new non-profit  develop into the professional service organization that we have become today.

2010

Eventually  a much larger storage area was needed.  Ariel Corporation generously offered HopeNow a spacious 9,000+ sq. ft. warehouse rent-free, located at 1201 South Main Street in Mount Vernon, our current location.

2013

HopeNow added to it name, becoming HopeNow Furniture Bank of Knox County, in affiliation with the Furniture Bank Association of North America, a network of furniture banks nationwide who share their expertise with each other.

Present

HopeNow has become a recognized local service organization in the community, helping over 3,000 households since its beginning, and providing over 25,000 items of furniture and 7,500 boxes of household goods.   Its environmental impact is impressive:  It has recycled a total volume of furniture equal to that of 180 semi-trailers!
